Part 3 "THE HOLY GHOST" The Holy Trinity of Jig Fishing

Without the Spirit (line),  you will be lost fishing a jig

The Holy Ghost PT.3

Your line choice is the final piece to "The Holy Trinity of Jig Fishing", and this choice can be crucial to your jig fishing.  Fluorocarbon is the best choice in line when fishing a jig.   Fluorocarbon is tough and less stretch than any other line with the exception to braided line in comparison.

I tried many brands and had many issues when I first began using fluorocarbon.  From bird nesting to breakage, I could go on for days about the problems I had with this line.  I had no faith in it what so ever.   Through trial and error I learned about fluorocarbon, and regained faith in its attributes.  I first learned, not all fluorocarbon lines are the same.  Some brands were only fluorocarbon coated.  Meaning the center core of the line was made of a different material.  Second thing I learned is different levels of quality.  You want to make sure the line you purchase is 100% fluorocarbon.  Inexpensive fluorocarbon usually is a good indication of poor quality fluorocarbon line.

Topping the list of fluorocarbon lines that I've used and have faith in.  Seaguar, Vicious Elite, Trilene Professional Grade.  Other brands that get great reviews from other anglers, Sunline & Gamma.  My personal choice is Seagaur!  I've used the entire line-up from Seaguar, from Red Label to Tatsu.   As it relates to this blog, my jig setup is spooled with 20lb Seaguar AbrasX

One might ask why line choice is the "Holy Ghost", in this Trinity.  Fluorocarbon is the "Spirit" in your jig setup.   Unlike the Father & Son which are more tangible at times,  as anglers we tend to forget about our line.   Without the Spirit (line),  you will be lost fishing a jig.

Part 2 The Son: Omega Custom Tackle "Pro-Mega Structure Jig"

Part 2 The Son of the Holy Trinity of Jig Fishing,  begins and ends with the Pro-mega Structure Jig by Omega Custom Tackle.  This is probably the best jig I've ever fished with.   The was a time when I belevied that a jig was just a jig, was I wrong about that.  The Pro-Mega Stucture Jig has been tested an proven on the waters of Lake of the Ozarks.  Fishing outside of my regional area (state of Missouri); I've found this jig to work especially well on any lake were the jig bite is on.
What sets the Pro-Mega Structure Jig apart is its design, components, and balance.  This jigs triangular head with flat sides makes it easy to skip under docks, worked through heavy cover whether it wood or rock.

When fishing with other jig brands I found the reason why jig fishing was unproductive for me.  Presentation!  Fishing other brands I'd come to realize they would rollover when in contact with cover.  When jig fishing you always want to make contact with cover.  So if your jig is rolling over when making contact your jig presentation is wrong and unnatural.  This is the reason for my inconsistent jig fishing prior to using the Pro-Mega Structure Jig.
Other key components to this jig include skirt material (Pro-Tie Skirts) and high quality hooks at the right angle.

This concludes Part 2: The Son. Holy Trinity of Jig Fishing.  Believe in this jig, it will save your jig fishing!  omegacustomtackle.com tackle warehouse.com or ask your local tackle  retailer for this jig.

The Holy Trinity of Jig Fishing (Part 1)

"The Father" Dobyns DX745C

"I'm using the Holy Trinity as an analogy for anglers to become a better jig fisherman.  The 3 components rod, line, and jig are interconnected and play different roles to have true jig setup!"

The Father of this setup is my rod, a Dobyns DX745C.  The DX745C is my faith in this setup.  It was what I had been missing in my jig fishing setup, and without this rod jig fishing was very inconsistent for me.  Not having the right rod was the major cause of missed hookups on jig bites.  The DX745C's fast action, just enough tip, extreme backbone power was key to giving me faith fishing football or heavy cover jigs!

The DX745C is the most sensitive and balanced rod I've ever fished.  I've been sold rods, and trusted opinions of the sellers that a particular model be a good jig rod, though my hookups on jig fish were still poor.  Through my progressions of becoming a better angler, I've come to find many rods that I'd used in the past lacked the backbone power and were tip heavy.  Their are debates whether or not tip heavy rods make a difference!  When fishing bottom/contact baits like a jig it's a world of difference in my opinion. What does that mean to you?  The loss of sensitivity!   For example, when bass are non-aggressive state the bite can be so subtle that's hard to detect on a tip heavy rod.  I feel that some sensitivity is lost in a tip heavy rod when fished in that 1-2 o'clock position needed for contact lures like a jig. The need for balance, sensitivity,  and power is crucial when fishing a jig in cover or structure.   Rated for 3/8oz - 11/2oz lures the DX745C is lightweight for a Mag Heavy rod, which also aids to more sensitivity.   The attributes mentioned are key, and should be looked for when selecting a rod for fishing jigs.

Like many other weekend warriors, I have a 9-5.  Most working angler have families and  budgets they must keep in check.  So, lets talk dollars and cents!  The DX745C retails for $349.99, and is the best fishing investment I made.  It has added to what was missing in my fishing arsenal, and I'm a more well rounded angler because of it.  I would recommend any angler to spend a little more money on there jig rod setup.  The Dobyns DX 745C is my choice, faith, and confidence.  Their are lots of great rod companies out there, and I'm just sharing with you my choice.  Look for the qualities mentioned in this blog.  Believe and have faith in your rod when fishing a jig.
